Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about setting up and using your Ledger device.

What is the recovery phrase and why is it important? +

The recovery phrase (also known as seed phrase) is a list of 24 words generated by your Ledger device that represents the master private key for all your cryptocurrencies. It's the most important piece of information for recovering your funds if your device is lost, stolen, or damaged. You must write it down and store it securely, never digitally.

Can I use my Ledger device with multiple computers? +

Yes, you can use your Ledger device with any computer that has Ledger Live installed. Your cryptocurrencies are stored on the blockchain, not on the device itself. The device only stores your private keys. As long as you have your device and PIN, you can access your funds from any compatible computer.

What should I do if I lose my Ledger device? +

If you lose your Ledger device, you can recover your entire cryptocurrency portfolio using your 24-word recovery phrase. Simply purchase a new Ledger device, select "Restore from recovery phrase" during setup, and enter your 24 words in the correct order. Your accounts and funds will be fully restored.

How often should I update my Ledger device? +

You should regularly update both your Ledger device firmware and Ledger Live application to ensure you have the latest security features and compatibility with new cryptocurrencies. Ledger Live will notify you when updates are available. Always ensure you have your recovery phrase before performing any updates.

Can I store NFTs on my Ledger device? +

Yes, you can secure NFTs with your Ledger device. While the NFT metadata is stored on the blockchain or IPFS, the private keys that control ownership of your NFTs are secured by your Ledger device. You can view and manage your NFTs through Ledger Live or compatible third-party wallets connected to your Ledger device.
